Procedure (35-44 minutes)
I have provided some pictures of mass media and a newspaper as realia to show them and ask if they know their names. In this way I can set the lesson context, engage them with the target of the lesson and activate their schemata.
Students are going to check some words with the teacher (key vocabulary), the teacher is going to teach the new ones in the form of MPF and then they are going to look at 4 photos of some TV news stories and match suitable words to the photos in groups of 3. In this way I can get them ready for the highlighting part of my lesson.
I am going to provide students with 3 questions to work in pairs asking each other. In this way I am going to set the context. The questions include: 1 - Where do you usually get your news - the TV, the radio, newspapers or the internet? 2 - Do you watch or listen to the news everyday? 3 - What was in the news yesterday? And then students are going to listen to the news in pairs and put the photos in order as they follow the news. In this way they are getting ready to listen for more details. And finally, they listen for more details that is they are going to listen again and choose the correct answers in the sentences.
Here I am going to clarify the stress marks for important words and then they are going to listen to some sentences practicing on them.
I have designed an activity for them for a speaking part on news. Students are going to divide into two groups A and B. Students in group A are given each a picture and students in group B piece of news. In a mingling activity they are going to look at their news and picture finding their pair (each picture is related to a piece of news) and then sit down next to their pair read and talk about the news completely. Finally they are going to retell their news to other pairs.
