Description

In this lesson, students will learn about the vocabulary related to the context of "names" and they will use and practice these names in the listening tasks. The lesson starts with a discussion about nickname. This is followed by a vocabulary activity where students will work in pairs. Then, they will do vocabulary exercise in the workbook. This is followed by two listening tasks. Finally there is a speaking task related to context of names where the students will discuss and work in pairs.

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson the students will have practiced their listening skill in the context of "names."

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, the students will have learned some vocabulary related to the context of names

Procedure

Warm-up (2-3 minutes) • To get students familiar with the topic

I will start the lesson with greetings and then go on by saying "Everyone has a nickname. For example I have a nickname called mücü, because my name is really long one when we compare it to the other names. So do you have a nickname? or may I ask one quesiton? :) Do you have a nickname for me? " Then, I will elicit the answers from the students whether they have a nickname or not. Does their nickname have a story?

Vocabulary (5 minutes) • To get students familiar with the words

I will divide the students into three groups. Each group will take three words to discuss the meaning of the words. Then I will elicit the answers from the groups. If one group does not know the meaning, I will elicit the answers from other groups. If noone knows the meaning of a word, I will use the vocabulary analysis. *see the vocabulary analysis

Gap-fill Exercise (5 minutes) • to match the words within the context given in sentences

Students will complete the sentences with the words that they have learned about names. With this exercise they will take a chance to practice the vocubulary that they have learned. I will ask them to check their answers with their partners then I will give them the answer key since vocabulary is my sub aim I don't want to waste my time too much on vocabulary tasks.

While- listening (7 minutes) • To listen for understanding the main aim for each paragraph

I will start the record related to the vocabulary that the students will try to understand the main idea of the subject told by each speaker. Then I will elicit the answers from the students.

While- listening (7 minutes) • to provide students with specific information

The students will listen to the record again. Then, they will try to match the topics with the speakers. I will elicit the answers from the students.

Post- listening (15 minutes) • to provide Ss with an oppourtunity to expand on what they've learned and practice them by speaking task

The students will work in pairs. The will choose two questions out of four question and they will discuss these questions. I will listen to their discussion to make later error- correction. When they finish their discussion, I will elicit the answers from the students.

Delayed Correction (2-3 minutes) • to provide students with the correct form of the words or sentences

I will model and drill the words that they might have problem. I will write the wrong version of the sentences and want them to correct.
