Description

In this lesson students will read about lottery winners and losers, students will read for gist and detailed purpose. Students will pre learn lexis related to winning a lottery which they will practice later in freer speaking activity.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about lottery winners and losers in the context of luck of the draw

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of lottery winners and losers

Procedure

Warmer (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher personalises and relates the topic with his real life to create ss intrest in topic. Teacher talks about being lucky and unlucky from his prospective. Teacher explains the task, models it and distributes. Ss work in pairs and ask each other questions about being lucky and unlucky. Teacher monitors and gives FB if necessary.

Pre-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible.

Teacher changes the pattern and breaks the ss into groups of three. Teacher explains the task before giving handouts. Teacher asks ccqs. Teacher sets the task. Ss work in groups and label pictures. Teacher monitors and takes feedback.

While-Reading (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information fot reading task.

Teacher explains students that they are going to read a text. Teacher breaks students into pairs. Teacher asks students to suggest the topic for reading context. Teacher sets the task and gives handouts. ss work in pairs and read for gist purpose. Teacher monitors and sees ss progress. Ss discuss their answers. Ss write their answer on the board.

While-Reading 2 (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed and deduced reading asks

Teacher explains the task and asks students to work alone in the beginning. Teacher gives clear instructions and models the task. Teacher gives handouts. Ss work alone. teacher monitors and checks weak area of student. Ss work in pairs for peer check. Teacher takes FB and gives answer keys.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to practice the lexis and share their opinion about the topic they have done.

Teacher makes pairs, Teacher explains the task. Ss work in pairs. Teacher monitors the activity. Teacher changes the pair. Teacher akes feedback
