Description

In this lesson, students will learn about clothes in the context of shopping. they are going to review some, any, colors and have got.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about clothing in the context of shopping

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of clothes in the context of shopping and to provide practice on speaking

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • to provide an active beginning to the lesson and activate SS schemata about clothes and shopping.

- In pairs, students will write three things they can buy in: a newsagent, a department store, a supermarket. - Ss say which of these things they buy every week.

Pre-reading (15-20 minutes) • to focus on vocabulary and pronunciation.

- In ex1, Ss will tick the words they may know in the box. - In pg.132, SS match the words with the pictures. - Ask CCQs, mention the stressed syllables and drill the words. - In ex.3a, SS focus on nouns look plural but can mean one thing. - Provide two examples and elicit the meaning. - In ex3b, SS try to find which nouns can mean one thing and which can be singular. - SS compare answers in pairs and then check answers as a whole class. - In ex.3c, SS choose the correct words. - SS compare answers in pairs and then check answers as a whole class. - In pg.132 5.7, SS check the nouns which can be plural and mean one thing, or noun which can be singular or plural. - Ask some CCQs. - in ex4, SS in pairs fill in the gaps with some, any or a. - Check answers as a whole class.

While-reading (10-15 minutes) • to develop reading comprehension skills and focus on language in the text.

- in ex5, SS read the article and match paragraphs to the people in the photos. - Check answers in pairs. - Provide FB as a whole class. - In ex6, SS in pairs read the article again and match the sentences to the people. - Check answers as a whole class.

Post-reading (5-10 minutes) • to provide an opportunity for learners to talk about their own experience and give practice in oral fluency.

- Set SS in pairs. - In ex7, SS discuss the questions and take notes. - Set SS in groups. - SS discuss their own answers.
