To develop speaking skills when talking about festivals.

1. To develop listening skills by listening to an audio about a festival in Asia. 2. To develop the use of functional language in the context of festivals.
Procedure (37-48 minutes)
1. The teacher will ask the students to look at the photos about festivals. Students will answer the following questions in OCFB: A. Where do you think the people in the photos are? B. What are they doing? C. Have you been to many festivals in your country? D. And abroad?
1. Students will be shown some photos and will discuss the questions with a partner in BOR's. The questions to be answered are: a. Where do you think the festival is taking place? b. What could the origins be? c. What do you think happens? d. What advice would you give to visitors? 2. After BOR's students will listen to someone talking about the Songkran Festival in the photos and take notes to answer the following questions: a. Where does the festival take place? b. What are the origins of the festival? c. What happens during the festival? d. What advice is given to visitors? 3. In OCFB, students will share their answers to the questions based on what they listened.
Meaning and Form Meaning Students will match the phrase with its correct sentence. Phrases: Inversion after negative adverbials: No way, never in a million years, only when. Cleft sentences: starting with what and the place/person/thing + relative clause. By using stress: amazing. Form Inversion after negative adverbials: We also use inversion after certain informal constructions: 1. I would never try something so dangerous. No way __________________________________. 2. I'd never thought I'd see such an amazing sight. Never in __________________________________. 3. The fun started after the sun went down. Only _____________________________________. 4. The costumes were what I liked best. The thing _________________________________. 5. The people make this ceremony so special. It's ______________________________________.
1. Students will talk with a partner about a festival they've been too in BOR's. Remind them to try to use some of the phrases we have just learned. 2. Students then switch pairs and talk to another partner about a festival they've been to in BOR's. 3. In OCFB students share some of the experiences from their partners at festivals. *Monitor students while they are in BOR's.
1. The teacher provides feedback on good expressions/phrases she has heard from students. 2. The teacher provides feedback on phrases that need reformulating and errors which need correcting.
