Description

In this lesson the Ss will learn to use adverbs of frequency in writing and speaking. They will also learn how to make questions using "how often". At first they will have some controlled practice then they try to relate the sentences in the book to their own lives.

Main Aims

To let Ss practice adverbs of frequency in their speaking both in controlled and semi-controlled activities

Subsidiary Aims

To help learners overcome any problems they might have in using adverbs of frequency (their meaning and the grammer) and have some controlled writing tasks

Procedure (25-44 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Greetings and letting them to know what is going to happen.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

For this part at first they will be given instructions as how to do the tasks They will read some sentences in their HOs. (ex. 1.65) and then they will listen to the audio and try to write the answers in their HOs.

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

They will read the sentences and the answers and will check them together.

Clarification (5-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Ex. 2 . They will be asked to insert the adverbs of frequency they have learned in the sentences so that the sentence is true about them. They may play a simple game in groups of four or five. They hopefully will master the form in this part.

Controlled Practice (4-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss will answer the ex.3 in their HOs. They will have some peer correction and later on a whole class activity.

Grammar checking (4-6 minutes) • To teach how to make questions with "how often"

Ex.4 on their HOs focuses on this concept. It will be touched very briefly since they know how to make wh-questions. some drilling will also be done to give them practice with pronunciation and question form.

Free Practice (4-7 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

This is the last part of the lesson. Ex.5 in their books tries to provide them with an opportunity to practice making questions with "how often" . They will choose some sentences from the previous exercises and make question for them. They will have a chance to make even their own questions and answer with every adverbs of frequency that they prefer.
