Description

In this lesson, students learn about the importance and advantages of making lists. I start with suitable warm up about the tasks they had to do this week and how they remember to do them.Then they answer a pre-reading question . I clarify difficult words. they read and do while-reading tasks.Then they do a post-reading task.Finally they move to the vocabulary section in which they finish two tasks; the first one is related to the reading text.

  • To write about advantages and disadvantages of making lists from their personal experiences

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I tell them about the tasks in my list, which I had to do this week. Then I ask them to do the same.

Pre-Reading (5-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I discuss the photos with them. I encourage them to say what they expect to find in this text.

While-Reading #1 (3-4 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist.

Students read the article and match each of the names of the people mentioned with photos a-d.

While-Reading #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

Students read carefully and provide answers for some wh- questions.

While-Reading #3 (3-4 minutes) • "This task focuses on individual items, vocabulary or grammar exercises" Adapted: Jim Scrivener,pg. 267.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

From their personal experiences they write about advantages and disadvantages of making lists.

Vocabulary #1 (4-5 minutes) • To learn the meanings of some phrasal verbs in the reading text.

Students have an activity in which they replace the underlined phrases with the correct form of phrasal verbs from the article in the reading section.

Vocabulary #2 (5-6 minutes) • To practice speaking with a partner.

Students say if some of the sentences are true for them.
