Description

In this lesson, Ss will practice their listening and will learn some new vocabulary related with shopping. The listening is about two women at the mall, looking for suitable dresses for themselves. The audio will be a model for the following lessons.

Procedure

Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • to engage students with the topic

Hang the two pictures on the board and ask them which is possibly a real picture and which is an advertisement? Put Ss in groups of three and discuss and learn why. Take WC feedback. Put Ss in pairs and distribute SS discussion questions. Take FB.

Pre-Reading/Listening (9-11 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

After taking FB, give your own opinnion. Teach the vocabulary "Try on, a top, go with your eye, casual, jewellery" with the context of "it is really difficult to go shopping with women, because they are never happy with what they buy."

While-Listening/gist (7-9 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

Ask Ss to look at the picture. Work in groups of three and decide if Bella and Mademoiselle Lajolie look unhappy? If so, why/why not? Then ask them to listen and check their answers if their guesses were correct or not.

While-Listening/ specific info (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

Tell Ss that they are going to listen to the audio again. This time they will need to circle the correct answer in the material you are going to distribute after the instruction. After giving the instruction, ask Ss; "can you choose two of them?wıill you do it while listening?" After listening ask Ss to compare their answers with their partner. Take WC FB and give the correct answers on the board.

Post-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Put Ss in pairs. Ask them to ask these questions to each other in pairs and answer. 1. Do you like shopping?Why/why not 2. Why do women and men go shopping? 3. How do you feel when you go shopping and buy something? Compare your feelings with your partner. 4. Have you been to a shopping mall with a woman/man recently? What happened? Take WC feedback. Write students errors on the board and ask them if they are true or false. Elicit the correct answers.
