Description

In this lesson students will learn about the "present continuous" grammar in the context of beach-related activities.

Main Aims

  • By the end of this session they will be able to identify and name common beach activities and use present continuous tense to describe actions happening now.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To develop students` listening comprehension skills through a story
  • To enhance students` speaking skills by using grammar and vocabulary

Procedure

VOCABS: Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The T starts the class with a brief greeting.(How is everything? ,how was the school today?) The T plays a fun song about beach to prepare Ss for the context .Then show the picture of a beach and asks Ss if they like going to the beach . The T groups Ss and puts the main Q on the board what is your favorite activity at the beach: for example (making a sandcastle, walking , finding shells and swimming). Ss are going to talk if they have ever been to the beach and share their experiences. The T gets FB at the end of the discussion.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The T elicits vocabs using the pictures from the power point and writes the words on the board. By concept checking questions makes sure that Ss understand the differences between the sea sports. The T checks the pronunciation after each vocab being taught chorally and individually and asks the Ss to repeat after her.

Useful Language (2-4 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

The T uses flashcards of the target words to clarify the meaning of vocabs for Ss. The flashcards are provided in a video and the T plays a role of a person who can`t remember the words that have been taught and Ss are asked to help the teacher remember

Productive Task(s) (15-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

The T divides Ss to three groups and runs a competition between them .The competition would be a matching game .The T has the print of the pictures and sticks them on the board then shares the cards of written form ,each group would have 2 written form cards and then each S of each group must come to the board and match the cards to the pictures. Each group would gets score for the right answer. Freer activity : The T groups the Ss by using stickers of (Tom & Jerry cartoon), then writes the Q (Think about the next time that yo go to the beach with your family, which activity do you like to do?) and asks the Ss to discuss in their groups. The T monitors the groups and finally gets FB.

Animation (8-10 minutes) • Reading & listening to comprehend the short story

The Ss will be asked to open their books .look at the pictures and answer the follow up Q asked by the teacher.(who do you see in the first picture ?where are they ?,what can you see in the second picture?, how are they feeling? sad or happy, what is the weather like there?) By these Q the Ss will guess the things that happens in the story . The T plays the video & asked the Ss to count and name the pre-taught vocabs.

GRAMMAR: Warmer| Lead in (6-8 minutes) • To set the lesson context and engage the Ss

The T asks the Ss to look at the pictures again and
