listening abt a new business idea

Description

in this lesson students are going to work on and practice their listening skills through a listening about a new business idea. at first i am going to teach them the key word and vocabulary that is going to be in the listening to avoid confusion, then they are going to hear the tape once and answer a gist question. the answer will be checked with the class. then they have a few minutes to read the next group of questions which are more detailed and specific. and then they will listen the tape again and answer the questions. the answers will be checked with the class. and as their post listening practice they will have a GW to chat abt some related topics. their conversation will be monitored by the teacher.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, specific information and detailed listening practice using a tape about bank of happiness in the context of business idea.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of bank related vocabulary in the context of bank of happiness

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

i will show them a picture of a bank and ask them what they think it is? what activities do people do there? what it reminds them of? then i'll ask them do they have any systems or applications in their country that offers them free services or where people can offer free services to each other? to draw their attention to the topic.

Pre-Reading/Listening (7-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

the students are going to face the new vocabulary and try to guess the meaning according to the picture provided. words like intelligent, government, borrow and lend, property, principle and position are going to covered. Part A of the student book and the gist are going to be revealed to them.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (3-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

the students will be listening to the audio for the first time and try to understand the main idea of the conversation to be able to answer part b of their student book. then i will check their answer with the whole class. if any ones answer was wrong, i will ask for their reasoning( like what did you hear?) and help them to correct their answer.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (9-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

they will have 2-3 minutes to only read the questions of part c, afterwards they will hear the listening for the second time and try to answer the more detailed questions of this part. their answers will be checked with whole class and if anyone made a mistake i will ask the to explain their answer and help them understand where they went wrong and find the correct answer.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

they are going to talk abt the questions and topics of part d in their book in the groups of 3 people. their conversations will be monitored by the teacher and help will be provided if needed.
