in this lesson the students will learn how to write a biography of a famous person, they will read a sample text then they will be taught about different parts of a biography, in the end they will produce a biography of a famous person they know who is alive

Main Aims

  • To provide process writing practice of a biography in the context of a famous actor

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of movie terms in the context of film production

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

on this stage I show the students a few pictures of famous people and ask students if they know them or if they can find a famous person they like among them in order to attract their attention to the target language

Exposure (4-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

on this stage students will read a sample text (Matt Damon's biography), the students will be asked to read the text and remember three things about him then they will fill in the blank spaces with either a past simple or present perfect verb, the answers will be checked with the whole class. any key vocabulary will be discussed after they've already read the text once so they can practice the guessing technic.

Useful Language (8-12 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

on this stage I use the whiteboard to show the students the structure of a biography (it has three stages; early life, young adult and later life) the student will learn what to talk about in every stage and what tense they need to use per stage depending on if the person is alive or dead

Productive Task(s) (3-4 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

on this stage the student will be asked to write a plan for a biography of a famous person who is still alive, they need to prepare what they need to write in every paragraph and decide what tense they need to use in every paragraph

Feedback and Error Correction (5-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

on this stage the biographies the students have produced in the previous stage will be discussed with the whole class, special attention will be paid to the correct use of the tenses and what they need to include in every paragraph
