  • To provide clarification, review and practice expressing wishes and intentions using planning to, going to, would like to, would rather in the context of Lifestyles

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice pronouncing contractions as well as the weak pronunciation of to (/tuh/)

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start with quick ice-breaker rapport builder asking how was your weekend. Then I will move on to the lead-in pictures. Students will give ideas about what each person in the picture likes to do. I will categorize their answers under the corresponding pictures. Then They will offer their opinions on what they think a Live Wire is and a Couch Potato is as well as tell us if they think they are either.

Text (7-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text

I will introduce the slide with 12 sentences of intent and wishes that are related to the two pictures from the lead in. Students will categorize these sentence with either the Live Wire picture or the Couch Potato picture. they will have 2 minutes to quickly categorize. Any contradicting answers can be discussed as a class. Next, I will introduce the slide with the same 12 sentences. This time they will have a few minutes to underline the targeted language of the verb phrase, going to, planning to, would like to, and would rather. They will work with a partner to find them. Then together as a class an contradictory answers can be discussed.

Clarification of MFP (12-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Meaning: I will introduce the meaning clarification slide and give instructions: "in this task you will choose the answer that has the closest to the meaning of the sentence." Ss will have 2 minutes to work with a partner to decide on the answers. Back in class as whole they can discuss and defend their answers. CCQs canl be used before moving on to the next slide. Answer Key: 1. b, 2. a, 3. c, 4. a Form: I will introduce the form clarification slide and give instructions: On this slide the Students will have 2 minutes to choose the correct form of the verb to complete the sentence. They will choose between the infinitive form and the base form. Students will have 2 minutes to complete the task. We will review answers quickly together clarifying any disagreements. CCQs can to be used before continuing. Answers Key: 3. to play, 4. play, 5. watch, 6. to watch, 7. to spend, 8. spend Pronunciation: I will introduce the pronunciation slide with a focus on contractions and the weak to (/tuh/) Ss will listen to the audio and repeat piece by piece to build up to the whole sentence.

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The controlled practice slide will be introduced. Students will be given 4 sentences that require conjugation of the verb phrases in the context of moving to a new country. There will be some negative conjugations to show another version of the form. The first sentence will be completed for them as an example. They will have 2 minutes to complete this task. After they will share their answers with a partner and see if they agree. We will then clarify disagreements to gather as a class.

Freer Practice (10-14 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In this Final task, students will be given a prompt to help them formulate questions about their classmates free time in the near future. They will use these questions to interview a partner as well answer the questions when asked by their partner. They will then report their findings to the class. After, we will have a short delayed error section to address any issues overheard when free speaking.
