Funtional Language - Shopping Clothes
Pre - Intermediate level

Description

In this lesson, the students will practice functional language when they go shopping for clothes. First, I will tell Ss a story about myself to give the new words.Then, relationship between the shop assistant and the customer will be clarified. Then the students will practice how to ask article of clothing, colour,,size. Finally the students will practice shopping through a role-play conversation.

  • To provide practice using functional language of offers and requests when shopping in a clothes shop

  • To provide controlled and freer practice of speaking fluently in the context of shopping clothes

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T enters the class with shopping bags ana says ' today I went to Korupark and bought lots of things because I love......'(shopping) T elicits 'shopping' from the Ss.

Exposure - Highlighting (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation and draw students' attention

T says while I was shopping I talked to T sticks the photo of the shop assistant on the WB and eliticts theword 'shop assistant' and sticks the photo of herself to elicit the word ' customer'.T drills and writes the words on the board.T asks CCQs 1)Is the customer working in the store? (No) 2)Who is the shop assistant helping? (customer) 3)Are they friends? (No) T says 'while I was shopping I saw a skirt and went directly near the shop assistant'.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

A conversation starts between the shop assistant and customer.T will be both shop assistant and costumer.T gives the meaning of the new words through the conversation.T gives Ss the conversation in jumbled order and they put the conversation in the correct order with their partners . After, T asks the class and sticks the related sentences under shop assistant and customer and gives WHFB.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T gives the Ss the dialogue with blanks and gives the Ss words to fill the dialogue.Ss will do it individually and T monitors.Then, Ss check the answers with their partners.T writes the answers on the board.After this activity T gives the Ss the questions and answers which are in the conversation and Ss match them together with their partners and T gives WCFB.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ss will fill in the chart asking clothing,colour,size and price .Ss will do it in pairs.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T divides the class into two. One group will be the shop assistant and the other group will be the customer. T gives some realias to the shop assistants to sell.Customers buy clothes by using the funtional language they have learned then Ss swich their roles.T monitors.
