Party, Writing Lesson

Description

In this lesson, Ss will revise the adjectives related to food. They will practice writing through listening,dictation, running dictation activities and finally they will write their own e-mail to a friend.

Main Aims

  • To provide process and product writing practice of an e-mail in the context of food / party

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about party in the context of party

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows some pictures to the Ss and want Ss to find the topic . (a terrible party).

Brainstorm (5-6 minutes) • to help Ss categorise their ideas, introduce mindmaps, vocabulary focus.

T tells Ss to call out anything that comes to mind connected with the topic . t. writes up everything on the board, no discussion or commends needed. T invites Ss to select ideas they like and can use. Everyone should have something they can make use of.

Skim reading model (6-7 minutes) • to introduce a model, skimming skills.

T gives Ss a jumbled reading text. First students try to complete information gap activity. After that they read and reorder the text. They check the text in pairs. T gives the answer key to the Ss.

Reading in detail (5-6 minutes) • to practise detailed reading skills, Ss see the relevance of mind map.

Ss compare the text with the mind map. They discuss " Is all the information from the mind map included?"Where?

Fast-writing (5-6 minutes) • to overcome "blank page error" and to get ideas flowing .

T tells the Ss that they need a piece of paper. T explains the rules: start writing/ don't stop writing/don't put your pencils down/ don't worry about grammar/don't stop or go back/ keep writing until I say "stop"

Extra (Runnig Dictation) (4-5 minutes) • to help students gathering their ideas

T divides the class into 2 groups. S1 runs out of the class , reads sentences, memorize it and come back to the class, says what she/he memorized and S2 writes the sentence that she/he hear.

Writing (8-10 minutes) • to practice writing and provide accuracy

Ss write an email to a friend and they tell about the party of a friend. They use brain map and fast writing text and dictation text to help them.

Feedback and Error Correction (1-2 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T groups sts into two groups and they read each others work, they give comments. As a result of comments Ss can write a new draft of their work at home and submit it to readers for comments.
