Description

In this lesson, sts will be learning "modals of obligation" (must, have to, can) through a slideshow and practice what they learn with different speaking acivities.

  • To give Ss practice in speaking for accuracy in using the TL

Procedure

Lead-In (3-5 minutes) • To engage students and set a context

*I will start the lesson by expressing the obligations, rules in my house or for some jobs. And then I will ask them if they have any rules on their own or in their house. It will be a short discussion because I will show all the rules, forms in the slide.

Grammar (10-15 minutes) • To give Ss clear information about the modals of obligation (must, have to, can)

*Start with the first slide. There are two sentences; -I have to wear a uniform in the school. -Dotors sometimes must work on Sundays. *I will analyze these to sentences one by one to check if they already know this piece of grammar. *I will ask CCQS such as; -Do I want to wear a uniform?No. -Is it the rule of the school? Yes. * **** * * * * * -Is it doctors' decision to work on Sundays? No. -Is it an obligation? Yes. -Is it the rule of the hospital? Ys. *After giving the rules, forms and uses, I will continue the slide because this time they will try to guess the sentences by looking at the picture. *I will do the same thing in the slides where there are sentences about "can, can't,mustn't, don't have to"

Post-Grammar (3-5 minutes) • To check their understanding about the grammar

*After the slideshow, I will check their understanding with a HO. *They will choose the correct answer related to the TL. *After finishing, they will check their answers with their partners and then if there is a problem, we will check together.

Speaking Activity (5-10 minutes) • To give Ss practice in speaking for accuracy

*I will divide the class into groups according to the number of the sts. *Make Ss choose an unusual sports name. *I will show them the pictures of the sports and they will write 5-10 rules about these sports. *At the end we will choose the craziest sport.

Rewrite the Sentences (10-12 minutes) • To give Ss spoken and written practice of target language

I will give them 5 sentences and they will match the definitions with the sentences and they will rewrite the sentences.
