To provide practice of common verbs vocabulary and grammar-collocations.
Procedure (29-41 minutes)
Ask ss to look and guess what the mime means. Mime/act out the collocations. Prompt and show ss flashcards of the actions. Choral and individual drill on collocations.
Use word cards to check if ss can match it to the right picture. Show ss the thumbs up sign, and drill 'can'. (individual and choral drilling) Model an example on the board using the picture and word cards. Read sentence and let ss repeat. Show ss thumbs down sign, drill 'can't'. Model an example on the board. Read sentence, ss repeat.
Give out sheet with song, get ss to stand in a circle, play son and let ss practice by singing along.
Collect sheets from ss and ask them to remain standing. Model task. Use examples from the board. Ex: I can catch a ball. I can't play football. Pass a stress ball/squeezed sheet and encourage ss to take turns in saying what they can and can't do using the pictures on the board. SS go back to their seats and complete task one. Pair feedback/ move around and compare answers.
Explain task 2 to ss. show them a tick() for can and ( x) for can't. model an example with A3 sheet on the board. Fold ss paper to show column just for them. instruct ss to hands up when they finish. Show ss how to open the 1st friend. Model how to ask their partner and ss do same. Can you play football? If there's time, do 2nd friend.
SS in a circle, model what to do when the song is playing and when it pauses. When playing, ss walk round in a circle and sing along. When it stops, the turn to the person next to them and tell them what they can and can't do. Shuffle the line, then play song again. Repeat.
