To develop students' listening skills by practicing listening for gist and specific information through a text about after school
Subsidiary Aims
-
To expand students' vocabulary related to after school routines, and to provide speaking practice through discussing personal daily routines.
Procedure (35-45 minutes)
-T. tells the students to play a game called " Play Find the Word!" -T. gives the instruction on how to play a game. 1. Ask the students to make 2 teams. 2. Draw a grid on the board and number the square 1-16. Each number represents the P.S and P.C 3. Ask the left team to call out the number. First, if they call out '7', the teacher write 'Talking'. Second, they have to call out the number that represent P.S. If they can they words are left on the board. If they are wrong, T. erases the words on the board, and invites another team. 4. The team that can find a lot of words is going to win.
-T. puts the students in pairs. -Ask the students to look at the pictures -T. asks the questions: 1. How many people can you see? Who are they? 2. Who lives above the restaurant? Who lives in the traditional house? 3. What are the two boys doing? 4. What’s good and what is bad about living in these different types of house? -Let the students talk in pairs before asking for ideas.
1. T. leaves the students in pairs. 2. T. asks the students to look at the sentences and at the four pictures at the top of the page. 3. Get the students to match the sentences to Vuthy or Piseth. 4. Ask the students to write their answers in their notebooks. 5. Ask the students to listen and check their answers. (Answers: Vuthy: 1. c 2. d 3. e 4. f Piseth: 1. a 2. b 3. g 4. h)
Activity 3: 1. . Ask students to listen carefully and complete the sentences. 2. When the listening is complete, ask the students to check their answers with their partner. 3. Play the listening again if needed. (Answers: a. live b. buy c. arrive d. work e. say f. sleep g. cooks h. watch)
Activity 4. Speaking- How much can you remember? 1. Ask the students to close their books. 2. Ask them to try and remember as much as possible about Vuthy and Piseth. 3. Ask the student to tell their partner what they remember.
1. Ask the students to open their notebooks and draw the grid. 2. The students complete statements about their partner by guessing the answers. 3. When they have finished, each student reads out their statements and their partner must say whether each statement is right or wrong. 4. If it is wrong, their partner gives the correct information. 5. When the students have finished, they discuss whether they do the same things.
