Description

In this lesson , students will be able to speak about cultural differences and attitudes towards success .They will also listen to two different attitudes toward success . They will also learn success vocabulary and how to use them in a context . They will answer a quizz through speaking exercise.

Materials

Abc Remco and Mariama photos
Abc quizz HO

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of success and how to speak about their attitude to success and their achievements

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of success and achievements words in the context of attitudes to success
  • To provide specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about attitudes to success in the context of cultural attitudes towards success

Procedure

Warmer (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students to talk about their aims and achievements in life and whether they are happy or not about them .

Teacher asks the students questions about what is their job/ study and what did the achieve in life . Are they happy with their achievements or not ( T-S ). T sticks the photos of Mariama and Remco on the board and let the students notice the cultural differences between them , Let the StS predict how Remco and Mariama feel about being successful .

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening for the main idea

T shows STS the HO 1 and let them guess how do Remco and Mariama feel about their achievements . Do ICQ and then listen to check their answers

listening for details (5-7 minutes) • students listen again to answer true or false questions

T introduces HO 2 and asks STS to read the sentences carefully and think about their answers ,Use ICQ, Then T plays the recording again to let STS get answers .After that STS check their answers in groups

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language in vocabulary in the context of success and how to use them

first T intoduces the HO 3 then let STS understand what the have to do , T uses ICQ . T Give STS time to think about the answers in pairs then T checks answers in WC . Then T explains vocabulary by using definitions , acting . T discusses pronunciation and stressed syllables and to use the vocbulary in context, then students do exercise b answering the questions and set the differences between words

speaking (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice the success and achievements vocabulary

T introduces the quizz HO , sTs answer the questions alone and then discuss the answers in GW, WC

Feedback and Error Correction (5-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Let sts answer the quizz questions in Wc class activity and give reasons to their answers. STS Practice saying the vocabulary and T checks errors
