Procedure (31-45 minutes)
The teacher greets students. Students are asked to open page 122. The teacher asks: What do you wear when you exercise? What other sports or exercise equipment do you use? Students discuss in pairs and share their answers with the class.
The teacher asks students to look at page 122 and asks what sports equipment they see on the page. The teacher elicits answers from the students and asks them to come up with other sports equipment. Acting Out: The teacher puts vocabulary slips on the table and asks students to pair up. Each pair has a slip of paper. In pairs, students act out the vocabulary, and the pairs try to guess the sports equipment. After each pair completes guessing, each pair shares the name of the sports equipment and whether their guess is correct.
The first listening is done for Activity 2. The second listening is done for Activity 3. Students check in pairs first. Then, the answers are checked as a whole class. ICQs: "Are you matching people or equipment?" (Equipment). CCQs: "Are these actions happening now?" (Yes)
The teacher draws students' attention to the Grammar Box in Exercise 4. The teacher elicits the structure and provides examples on the board (e.g., “I am buying,” “He is not buying,” etc.). The teacher uses color-coding or underlining to highlight the structure (am/is/are + -ing verb). CCQs: "Are these actions in the past or happening now?" (Now)
In pairs, students complete Exercises 5 and 6 on page 123 using the correct Present Continuous form. The answers are checked as a whole class. Exercise 6 can be skipped depending on the time remaining.
The teacher reflects the wordwall game which has flashcards showing people using different sports equipment (for example, someone using a tennis racquet, running shoes, or a football shirt, similar to the items discussed in the lesson). The link is sent to the students. Students form groups of 3. One student in each group describes what the person in the picture is doing, using the Present Continuous (e.g., “She is playing tennis with a racquet”). The other students in the group try to guess the activity or equipment being described based on the clues. The answer is checked. The group with the highest score wins.
