Procedure (22-32 minutes)
The teacher will set the lesson with some questions to activate what they remember from the school and build the lesson on. They will talk about some theories to get to the main part. They then connect some words with their definitions. At the end of this stage they will be shown some words to match with the new words they just explored. These questions can be as follows: Do you know any scientific theories? How many famous scientists, alive or dead, can you name? Do you think the world needs more science and scientists? Why? What kind of people would have been against science, in the past? Why?
They will be given a passage to skim and connect the paragraphs to each other. This part can be done either individually or in pairs.
They will read the text and try to find answers to some pre-set questions. They will also scan the text to find the meaning from the context. They will be given definitions and try to match the definitions with the new words and expressions.
The learners will have time to practice speaking in pairs and provide a short summary on the passage using the new words they have learned.
If time permits they will be given a piece of their workbook to do. This phase is done to refresh the words before the end of the lesson.
