Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide practice of names of places in a town in the context of map
Procedure (44-50 minutes)
Students work in pairs to decide whether this town is in Turkey or not by looking at the map provided by the teacher. They share ideas as an open class activity. They give their ideas by completing the sentences on the board. ' We think this town is in Turkey because ....................' or ' We don't think this town is in Turkey because ..........................'
In exercise Vocabulary1, students match the names with the places on the map and they peer check before they share their answers with the teacher. In exercise Vocabulary2, they work in pairs to do the exercise and compare their answers with the pairs / groups closest to theirs. One student from each group / pair shares their answer with the class. In exercise Vocabulary3, students share their answers with the teacher as an open class activity.
Students look at the picture of the people at the train station and think about the questions the teacher asks. ' Where are they? ', ' Do they know each other? ', ' Why are they at the station? ', ' Why are the men wearing the same scarf?', ' What do you think is happening?'. Teacher neither comments about the answers nor corrects them.
Students listen to the recording once and choose the correct words to complete the sentences. They compare their answers in pairs and then as an open class activity.
Students listen to the recording again, if needed twice, and they follow Mary's directions on the map. Students compare their answers in pairs and share answers with the teacher.
Students change groups and give directions to each other for their favourite restaurant or cafés and they produce the target language in this free speaking activity.
