Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about distance between home and workplace in the context of City

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of places in a city
  • To provide clarification and practice of Places Lexis in the context of places in a city

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (10-12 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will be divided in to 5 groups(each group is a name of a city). Each group will receive it's flashcards of places in their city.They have to figure out what's the name of their places.Then this question will be written on the board :"How far is .....?". This question will be asked from each group and the answers will be elicited and written on the board.

Reading (5-8 minutes) • prepare and study the reading text

"where do you live and work?". This question will be asked from 3 or 4 students and the answer will be elicited from them.Then students will pair up and a piece of text will be given to each one.They need to read the text on their own and talk about it with their partner and share what they have learned from their text.they have only 1 minute to read the text , that's why they have to use gist reading.

Post Reading (13-15 minutes) • To read for specific information in the text

6 question will be given to each pair then they have to fine the answers in the text.They'll check their answers with their partner.They will have only 4 minutes to answer all the questions, that means they have to scan the text as fast as they can.Then some adjectives will be given to them and they need to find the opposite of each one from the text(deducing). Then the answers will be checked in the whole class.

Speaking (8-10 minutes) • Speaking for fluency using the vocabulary they have learned

In this stage they will be grouped as 4 students (variable due to number of students) and they have to talk to their partner about places they like and dislike and why.Then they'll be asked to say what they have learned from each partner.
