Description

As a lesson is a follow on from the previous lesson, students will repeat some vocabulary relevant to jobs, nationalities and the grammar strusture of "to be" forms. They will do a number of exercises prepared specifically to practice "to be" both in a written and spoken format.

  • To provide practice of "to be" forms in yes, no questions and short answers in the context of personal info

Subsidiary Aims

  • To give oral controlled practice of the TL

Procedure

Warmer/Lead in (2-3 minutes) • The review of the previous lesoon

to get STto tell me about Karl, Steve, Claire and Daniela about whom they got some information the listening part before. I will include brief questions: Where's Karl from? What's his job? Where's Steve from? Where's his job? Who's a teacher Daniela or Claire? Where/s she from?

Language focus (4-6 minutes) • To expose ST to TL

ST do an exercise with multiple choice.

Language focus (4-5 minutes) • To present the TL

To focus on 'is' and 'are' in questions. I will write down on WB these sentences to give clear instructions how to do the following exercise: Is Karl a doctor? a) Yes, he is b) No, he isn't Is Claire form France? a) Yes, she is b) No, she isn't Feedback will be taken after the completion of the task

Controlled written practice (5-6 minutes) • To practice YES/NO questions and short answers.

ST do a gap-fill exercise and drill for pronunciation

Controlled written practice (5-6 minutes) • To show the difference between 'you' and 'your' with the correct form of "to be"

ST fill in gaps with 'is' or 'are'. I will write the sentences to draw ST attention to the differences; ______your car black? ______you in class? This will help them to do the gap-fill exercise

Production controlled speaking for accuracy (7-8 minutes) • To provide ST extra activities to develop fluency

ST respond to their partner's questions by asking questions taken from the done exsercise
