Description

In this part of the lesson the teacher will show the students a picture and the they will make positive sentences about the items in the picture. further the teacher will write sentences with false information on the WB with gaps where students will fill out with negative to be verbs. They will follow this up by reading sentences and deciding whether they are true or false and subsequently correcting the false sentences. Then students will be asked to write 3 true and 3 false sentences.Then they will mingle with other students and correct each others sentences or state their sentences are correct by the positive form of "be".

Main Aims

  • To provide review,clarification and practice of positive and negative form of the verb "be" in the context of famous people and places.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To give students controlled speaking practice
  • To provide and enhance ability to write negative and positive statements using the verb "be".

Procedure

Lead in (5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the context

A picture is set up on the WB illustrating famous people and places. Students will be asked to help the teacher to make his sentences. They make sentences in simple present, using the verb "be".

Introduction (5 minutes) • To introduce negative form of the verb be and get students to make sentences.

pictures of famous people are scattered around the WB and a gapfill practice is set up on the board.The students now fill the gaps all together

presentation (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with illustration of the negative form of the verb be.

Three pictures are shown to students conveying singular and plural objects. Ask them to identify who the are and ask them further questions and lead them to use negative sentences.

Pair work (5-8 minutes) • To have the students use and practice the negative form in pairs.

Give them instructions by demonstrating the activity.Students start making their sentences in groups of two. Monitor them in case they need help.

Presenting vocabulary (3 minutes) • To support the students' awareness over the words they will be using in the true or false stage

Show them previous pictures and get them say what and who they are, aiming for the words; company, capital city, singer, actor and actress

True or False ex.9 (5-8 minutes) • To get the students decide whether to use negative or positive form of the verb be.

give the instructions by writing an example on the board and spread the handouts.students will work individually on the sentences. Monitor them whilst doing the activity.

Feedback (5-8 minutes) • To check students ability and awareness in the target language.

write one true and one false sentence on the WB and ask the students to write 3 of the same sentences. monitoring is mandatory.

EX 11 • To give the students a chance to share and correct each others' false sentences.

Change the groupings.Make groups of four. Students now tell each other their sentences and they make false sentences true.
