Description

In this lesson, students will be talking about facts and information media and they will be able to evaluate their credibility and legitimacy. They will learn new vocabulary based on a text , learn definitions of some words in the field of information and facts. This will be followed by a speaking about the new words they have learned.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about Can you believe what you read ? in the context of reliable , inaccurate, scandals, made up , trust

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of : made of , reliable, inaccurate , fake in the context of information media
  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a answering questions about the vocabulary they learned in the context of information media

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher stick cuts -out of a local newspaper, a magazine , an advertisment , a reference book and a website to the WB and ask students to choose their best way to get information . ask them which media do they trust the best

Pre-Reading (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Teacher ask which media do the students trust and give reasons to their answer.

While-Reading (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with main idea of the text

students read the first sentence and explain what they know about wikipedia.Then students read the whole text for details and match the paragraphs with subheadings, then students compare their answers in a group

While-Reading #2 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

students read quickly to find the answers to the questions below

Post-Reading (6-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to use the vocabulary they learned and match it with their meanings

students pay attention to the meaning and the part of speech the word is to make it easier

speaking (3-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to use the vocabulary they learned and use it in a context

students use the words from exercise 4 , put them in the blanks ,then ask and answer in a group to practice speaking . Teacher monitors and moves aroud the groups
