Description

In this lesson S will have a lead-in discussing his daily routins To prepare him for the text. T will elicit the new vocabulary and S will predict the topic of the text. S will read for gist and details to answer the questions and practice his reading skills. For the free practice, S will role-play someone else's daily outines.The last stage would be a feedback after the discussion.

Main Aims

  • For S to practice speaking through a discussion in the context of Daily routines.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T. greet S. and shows pictures with different daily routines. S. must choose 5 pictures that are similar to his daily routins and talk about when they take place during his day. S. should add 5 other activities while describing his day.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Pre-teaching vocabulary. T. elicits TL by asking S to match pictures with words. T. asks CCQs. A Cattle Farm What animals are raised on a cattle farm? (Answer: Cows) Is a cattle farm used for growing crops? (Answer: No, it's for raising animals.) Athletics What types of events are included in athletics? (Answer: Running, jumping, throwing) Is athletics a team sport? (Answer: It can be both individual and team events.) Cross-Country Skiing Is cross-country skiing done on flat land or steep mountains? (Answer: Flat land) Is it a winter activity? (Answer: Yes) Take Someone Out Does "take someone out" mean to invite them for a meal or activity? (Answer: Yes) Is it usually casual or formal? (Answer: Casual) Switch Off Does "switch off" mean to turn something on or to turn it off? (Answer: To turn it off) Can you "switch off" your phone? (Answer: Yes) T. models pronunciation of TL. S. drills TL. Prediction. T. shows pictures depicting people whose daily routines are described in the text. S. should try to predict where they live and what they do.

While-Reading #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

1. Skimming. T. asks S to skim the text, then a discussion goes about which predictions were true. 2. Scanning. T. asks S. to read the text again and do the exercise, choosing the correct options. T. monitors closely.

While-Reading (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

S. reads the text for details, while doing the true/false activity. T. monitors.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

S. and T choose any characters from the text and role-play their conversation, disciussing their daily routines. T. provides feedback.
