Procedure (31-45 minutes)
T asks Ss they will listen to five people answering the question "What are you optimistic about?". while listening, ss will complete a chart about what the people in the recording are saying. While ss listen, T draws the chart on board. After the listening finishes, T nominates different ss to come to board and complete the chart.
T asks Ss to divide into pairs and let them do the T/F activity to see if they remember the listening text correctly. Then, T plays the recording and Ss decide whether the statements are T or F. After Ss have finished, T gets FB from Ss.
T tells Ss that they have listened to people talking about things they are optimistic or pessimistic. For each speaker, T tries to elicit a heading. For example; since first speaker is optimistic about his retirement, the heading will be retirement. Then, T asks Ss to discuss in pairs if they are optimistic about any of the topics.
T focuses Ss attention to the sentences extracted from the listening. T reads the sentences and asks them if these sentences are talking about things happened in the past or will happen in the future. Then, T asks Ss to complete the rules with the forms in brackets as pairs. Then, T elicits the answers from the Ss and write a chart on W/B to make the differences clearer for the Ss.
T asks Ss to do the gap filling exercise in Grammar Part 2 in pairs. Then, T gets FB.
T asks Ss to match the dialogues in Part 5 in pairs. Then, T gets FB.
