Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of second conditional in the context of students' weeks

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of students' weeks

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In stage i will ask the students how they have spent their time this week. they will use some of the past simple structures or other forms.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this stage i will ask my students what they would do if they had the chance to spend their time differently.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

In this this stage i will write some of the sentences that my students have made in the correct form on the board to draw their attention to the TL

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will clarify the meaning by asking some CCQs (are we talking about an imaginary situation or a real thing that has already happened=imaginary situation, is it about the past or present or future= present or future) After that i will clarify the form by elicit the structure from students using CCQs (What we call this part=if clause, what we call this part=main clause, what is the form of the main verb in if clause=past, what form do we use in the main clause= would/would not+ base, can I change the place of if clause and main clause=yes, does this change the meaning=no) any word that might be difficult for students to articulate will be practiced.

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

the students are going to do some exercise on page 143 9A in the grammar bank in 2 to 4 minutes. they will have 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs and then we will check the answers with the whole class

Free Practice (10-13 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask my students to talk about what they would do if they found one million dollars and explain why in details and talk about their interests in groups of 3. then each should tell the class who they think has the best opinion.
