To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of housework/homework
Procedure (30-42 minutes)
I talk about things I've done recently using past simple and present simple followed by a present perfect, the context is housework or homework
I ask students to think about the two recent housework or homework they did, write it on a slip of paper they have 3 minutes to complete this task, if they use the wrong tense they will be corrected later when I highlight the correct way to say it
I choose a few sentences the students made and write them on the board in present perfect using yet and already
I start by writing two or more sentences containing the words yet and already to draws students' attention to the target language key points I need to state are: 1) to talk about a recent event and its relation to the present we use present perfect it's not used to say when exactly something happened 2) we often use the present perfect to give recent news to work on the form I write a sentence and elicit the formula from the students by asking them about the role of the words I have already cooked dinner subject + have + past participle of the main verb then I introduce the past participle, key points I need to state are 1) verbs with a regular past have a regular past participle which is the same as the simple past (base form + ed) 2) verbs with irregular past simple also has an irregular past participle which is sometimes the same as the simple past (buy, bought, bought) and sometimes different (do, did, done) then I will introduce the common adverbs used with the present perfect by giving example sentences key points: 1) we use yet in negative sentences and questions to say something hasn't happened or to ask if something has happened, we put it at the end of the sentence 2) we use already in positive sentences (when no negative word is present) to say something happened before now or earlier than expected, we put it before the main verb have you bought milk yet? you have not bought milk yet I have already cleaned my house to work on the form three aforementioned sentences will be given and CCQs will be used why already is used here? positive sentence why yet is used here? negative/question where do we put already? before the verb where do we put yet? at the end of a sentence to work on the meaning of yet and already I will ask the students to guess what already and yet mean in similar sentences by employing questions what does already mean? before the present time or earlier what does yet mean? until or up to the present time) I've already done my homework (happened before now) Jenna hasn't done her homework yet (it hasn't happened up to now)
on this stage I will ask student to do the a and b exercises on the pages 133 individually, they're given 4 minutes to complete the task and 2 minutes to check answers with a partner then the answers will be checked with the whole class
the students will be asked to talk about the most fun activities they've already done or haven't done yet in groups of five and monitored for using the correct tense, in the end feedback will be given
