Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide clarification of past continuous in the context of school trip
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of school trip
Procedure (39-56 minutes)
in this stage i will talk abt my favorite school trip to Mashhad from 6 years ago and the things that happed and i was doing.
i will ask my students to talk abt their favorite school trip and the things that they were doing. if they use the wrong tense they won't be corrected and i will highlight the correct form later in the class.
i will choose some of the students sentences on the white board in the correct form to draw their attention the the TL.
I will draw a time line on the board to let them know that this tense is used to describe an action in progress at a specific moment in the past. i also will clarify the difference between past simple and past continuous using the same time line and give some examples using both tenses. then i will use CCQs to help them understand when to use either of the tenses.(are the sentences abt the past, present, or future events? did they come to class today? were they getting ready to come to class before they actually made it to the class? which tense is used when we are talking abt a completed action in the past? is it ok to use past simple to describe an action in progress in the past?) i will work on the form by drawing the roll of the words and focusing on adding -ing to verbs and how the to-be verbs change and which persons use what form of the to-be verbs. the negative and y/n question form of this tense will also be mentioned.
The students are going to do the exercises 2B on the page 129 in the grammar bank individually in 4 minutes. they will be given 2 minutes to check their answers with a partner and then the answers are checked with the whole class.
I will ask my students to talk abt their best school trip ever in groups of 4 in 10 minutes. they will be monitored and feedback will be given at the end if needed.
