Procedure (43-57 minutes)
If there are old ss in the group remind them about Armancio Ortega 4th richest man in the world. Today our subject is his business - Zara. Is there one in Saint Petersburg? Where? Picture of DOm Mertens quite recognisable place.
play recording 4.2 ss answer the questions for 3 speakers. Then they use the same questions to interview their partners.
T asks the students about questions 1 and 2... What tense are they? Which is about a specific time? Which is about any time up to now? What verb is "BEEN"?
T elicits necklace. It's jewellery. This is a conversation with stick person B. B has an expensive necklace. Draw timeline up to now. Clarify form with a table showing statement, questions and short answers. Give out auction HO. Note short answer "Yes I have". Model also the opposite "No I haven't".
HO form present perfect questions in writing. prepare to speak. speak with partners. if there is time change partners.
handout the table from "Listen Carefully" and play the first part as an answer to show why there is a tick for speaker number one. Play the rest with a stop between speakers. Check in pairs. answers stopping again.
ss receive a sentence. Their task is to convert it into a "Have you ever...?" question. Do example on the board. T checks that everyone has a correct sentence. Model with a strong student. Then ask all to mingle and ask their question.
