Description

In this lesson the students will learn about family and possessives through different activities such as reading a paragraph, a mingling activity and exercises in the course book. By the end of the lesson they'll be able to talk about their partners family using possessives.

Materials

Abc World Quest Excercises 1 and 2

Main Aims

  • The students will be able to practice and develop the vocabulary for the family topic.
  • The students will recognise and use possessives in sentences.

Subsidiary Aims

  • The students will make a presentation about their partner's family's names.

Procedure

lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To warm the students and to set the context

T asks Ss to listen to Gogo's and see what he's talking about. Watch cartoon 'Gogo's adventures with English' about the topic Family. T asks what the cartoon was about.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To familiarize students with the family vocab and to engage the students

Show pictures of my family and try to elicit the vocab of the family members.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To provide practice using new vocabulary in the tree diagram

Ss are asked to complete the Family Tree in the coursebook. T will write the words on the board. T asks students to get into pairs and compare their answers. T class checks.

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To provide practice in using possessives

T asks Ss to complete exercise 2 in World Quest. After completion Ss get into pairs and compare their answers. T drills Scott's, Sam's Anna's, Jenny's.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide practice using new grammar point in sentences

T writes Scotts and puts a cross on it. Then writes Scott's and puts a tick, T writes other names as well. T asks what is this? Why do we do it? T gives examples to make it clear. T gets a book from a Ss and says this is my book? NO It's Doruk's book. T gives few examples and then gets the Ss to do the same.

Semi Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To provide practice using new vocabulary and the new grammar point in filling a chart

Ss walk around and ask 3 students about their family members names.

Free practice (3-4 minutes) • To provide practice using new vocabulary and the new grammar point in a presentation.

Ss talk about one of their friend's family members.
