Description

This lesson will focus on the present simple tense, specifically in the context of daily routines. The student will practice forming and using the tense in both positive and negative statements, as well as asking and answering questions. The lesson will begin with a lead-in to introduce the topic, followed by exposure to the target structure. The student will move through controlled, semi-controlled, and free practice, concluding with a communicative activity to promote fluency.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage the student

T asks S about his daily routine T shows slides with possible avtivities for S to menion in his answers. S can make up his own ideas or use ideas from the pictures. T writes some of the answers on the VB. ICQs: Should you describe what you do every day? (Y) Can you use ideas from the pictures? (Y) Can you create your own ideas? (Y)

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the present simple through a text.

- T provides a short text about someone's daily routine - S reads and answers true/false questions after the text. ICQs: Are all the statements after the text correct?

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw S attention to the present simple

T draws S attention to some sentences from the text and asks CCQs. Sarah wakes up at 6:00 AM every day. • Does Sarah wake up at the same time every day? (Yes) • Is this something she does regularly? (Yes) • Is she waking up right now? (No) • Does she wake up at 7:00 AM? (No) Tom doesn't exercise every day. • Does Tom exercise sometimes? (Yes) Does he exercise every day? (No)

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the present simple

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

S does a role-play with T: T is a journalist, and S is a celebrity talking about their daily routine. T provides feedback. ICQs: Are you a journalist or a celebrity? (celebrity) Do you answer or ask questions? (answer) Should you tell the truth or pretend to be a celebrity?
