Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide clarification of past simple in the context of holiday
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of holiday
Procedure (39-54 minutes)
In this stage I will talk about how I spent my last weekend and the things that happened.
I will ask my students to talk about their last weekend and the things they did. If they use the wrong tense, they won't be corrected and I highlight the correct form later.
I will choose some of the sentences that my students made to write on the board in the correct form to draw their attention to the TL.
I will draw a timeline on the board to let them know that this tense is used to talk about the past. I will use the CCQs to help them understand when to use this tense. (Are the sentences about the past, present or future? past. Are the actions completed? Yes. Can I mention the exact time in these sentences? Yes.) I will work on the form by eliciting the roll of the words and focusing on adding ed to the regular verbs and introducing them the common irregular verbs. The negative and question form of this tense will be mentioned as well. The pronunciation of the verbs heard, said, read will be mentioned and we also will focus on the ending sound /id/, /t/, /d/ after ed is added to the verbs.
The students are going to do exercise 1a on page 125 in the grammar bank individually in 4 minutes. They will be given 2 minutes to check their answers with a partner and then the answers will be checked with the whole class.
I will ask my students to talk about their best holiday ever in groups of 4 in 10 minutes. They will be monitored and feedback will be given at the end if needed.
