Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Objective: To set the context and engage the student with the topic. Activity: Start with a simple question to engage the student: “Do you like watching TV?” “How often do you watch TV?” “What’s your favorite show?” Transition: Introduce the lesson theme: “Today we are going to talk about different types of TV programmes and your preferences!”

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Objective: To provide context for the target language through a text. Activity: Read a short paragraph aloud or share it on the screen. Text: TV Preferences Around the World TV programmes are popular everywhere in the world. People like different kinds of TV shows. In the United States, many people enjoy watching reality shows. These are programmes about the real lives of people or celebrities. In the UK, quiz shows are very popular. In these shows, people answer questions and can win money. In Japan, many people love animated shows (called anime). Both children and adults watch them. In Turkey, many people like watching soap operas. These shows are about families and their stories. Everybody has a favourite type of TV show. Questions to Ask: “What kind of TV shows are popular in the United States?” “What do people like to watch in Japan?” “What’s a popular show in Turkey?” “What’s your favorite TV programme?”

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Objective: To clarify the meaning, form, and pronunciation of the target vocabulary. Target Vocabulary: Reality Show: A programme that follows the lives of real people. Example: "Survivor is a reality show where people compete on an island." Quiz Show: A game show where people answer questions to win prizes. Example: "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire is a quiz show." Soap Opera: A TV show about people’s personal lives, often with lots of drama. Example: "Days of Our Lives is a famous soap opera." Talk Show: A programme where people discuss topics or interview guests. Example: "The Ellen Show is a popular talk show." Documentary: A programme about real events or people, often educational. Example: "David Attenborough’s nature documentaries are well-known." Pronunciation Practice: Have the student repeat the vocabulary words after you. Concept Checking Questions (CCQs): "Is a documentary real or fiction?" (Real) "Do people act in reality shows?" (No, they are real people.) "Is a quiz show a game or a drama?" (A game)

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Objective: To check understanding through matching exercises. Activity: Matching TV Programmes to Descriptions Provide a worksheet (or display it on the screen) where the student matches TV programmes to their descriptions. Example: Descriptions: A show where people answer questions to win money. A show that follows real people and their lives. A show where people talk about different topics or interview guests. A show that tells stories about families and their problems. A show about real-life events, animals, or history. A cartoon for children or adults.
