Procedure (40-52 minutes)
In this stage, T. is doing a quick revision, applying TTT whereby he tests the students' knowledge about the use of ' have been' to talk about the places they visited. T. writes a sentence on board for the students to correct: I was been to Morocco. Then he discusses the mistake with them ' I have been to Morocco'.
T. directs the students' attention to the grammar spot to find out the difference between the simple past and the present perfect. T. asks which actions are completed and finished and which actions are still in progress. T. shows the timeline of both tenses. Next, T. asks students to match the time expressions with the appropriate tense. Next, T. explains when to use ' ever' and 'never' according to the type of a sentence.
This steps contains three gradual steps. First, T. directs students' attention to the WB to answer exercise no, page.. The exercise is applicable to the difference between the two tenses through focusing on the use of time expressions: yesterday, last..., ago. The second step is to move to exercise 1 page 107. Here, the students are required to write the correct form of the past participle of each verb. The T. may show a complete list covering irregular verbs after he gives feedback for their answers. The list is supposed to be supplementary. Third, T. asks students to exercise no. 1 page 108 where the student's listen carefully to the story of Ryan and tick the things he has done in his life. They also tick the things he has not done. T. shows the answer key and gives comments on the things students may answer differently.
Based on exercise 1, and the clarification given on the present perfect tense, the students are required to talk to each other ( in pairs) about the things they have done or they have not done in their lives. T. monitors the students and gives a collective feedback upon the students' performance.
