Write key vocabulary( e.g., chain, eternity, miserable) on the board. Explain each word with visuals and examples, then have students repeat and use them in simple sentences.
Students read a passage from A Christmas Carol that includes key vocabulary. Then, guide a discussion to clarify main ideas and themes, asking comprehension questions to ensure understanding.
Students will match names to descriptions and pictures to letters, followed by answering comprehension questions about the reading passage to reinforce understanding.
In pairs, students discuss two questions related to the passage and share their ideas using key vocabulary. A few pairs will then share their answers with the class.
