Procedure (65-88 minutes)
Ask students how often they text and what they usually text about .
Introduce new vocabulary related to texting ( e.g., 'LOL' , 'emoji' , 'abbreviation' ) . Write the words on the whiteboard and provide definitions and examples . Engage students by asking if they use these terms and in what contexts . Purpose : Fmailiarize students with relevant terms that will appear in the text .
At first students skim the text and then talk about advantages and disadvantages of texting . Then they read the text again by scanning and answer the questions in the book . Purpose : Develop reading comprehension and encourage critical thinking .
Provide a handout with vocabulary words and their definitions . In pairs , students match words with their meanings . Review as a class .
Divide students into small groups. Give each group a scenario related to texting (e.g., texting a friend about homework , texting a family member , etc ) . Each group must create a short dialogue using at least five new vocabulary words . Groups present their dialogues to the class .
