Procedure (44-55 minutes)
Begin the class by asking students to describe their friends or family members in 1-2 sentences. Ask them to use adjectives such as "friendly," "funny," or "quiet" to build context for the topic.
Firstly, teacher will have students complete the descriptions with the adjectives in the box (friendly, funny, quiet, sad, tidy) for Act. A under the Vocabulary part. Classroom will review the answers as a class by asking volunteers to read out their completed sentences. After that teacher will initiate Act. B under the Vocabulary part. Students will match the adjectives with their opposites. This is a vocabulary-building activity that introduces antonyms for adjectives.
Teacher will introduce the pronunciation table regarding adjective under Pronunciation Part. Teacher will make students say these adjectives with their partner in order to locate stress location. After that teacher will play the audio or pronounce the adjectives. Students should listen and mark the syllable stress. Later, teacher will have students repeat the adjectives out loud. Focus on ensuring they stress the correct syllables.
For the Listening for Gist (Activity A) under Listening Part, teacher will play the audio and ask students to match people (1-3) with names (Zoe, Alice, Jody). Then, teacher will elicit the answers and confirm understanding. For the Listening for Detail (Activity B) under the Listening Part, teacher will play the audio again, this time students must answer detailed questions about the characters (Who’s funny, quiet, etc.). Teacher will check the answers with the class.
For the part A. Work It Out under Grammar part, teacher will write these sentences on the board (from the booklet): “They’re all really friendly.” “She’s a very funny person.” “She’s quite quiet, but I like her.” Then, teacher asks students: Where are the adjectives in each sentence? Do adjectives come before or after the verb? Do adjectives come before or after the noun? After getting answers, teacher will explain the rules under Activity B: Rule 1: Adjectives are placed after the verb be (e.g., They’re friendly). Rule 2: Adjectives are placed before nouns (e.g., a funny person). Later on, teacher will follow the instruction and may complete the activities given on page 124 for Grammar Hub section. Those activities can be assigned as homework.
Teacher will distribute a worksheet where students choose correct sentences according to the placement of the adjective in a sentence. In the second activity of the worksheet, students will write grammatically accurate sentences that include given adjectives. Then, the answers will be reviewed together as a class.
Speaking Activity For the Act. D under Grammar part, students describe someone they know using adjectives from the vocabulary section. Encourage the use of words like "really," "very," and "quite" in their descriptions in pairs. Later on, teacher will ask each pair to share their descriptions with the class. Discuss any interesting sentences, and provide feedback on the use of adjectives.
