Main Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about someone's experience in getting stuck in an elevator in the context of a lost weekend

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of one's experiences

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In this stage I will talk about how terrified I am of elevators and that's because once I got stuck in an elevator and had panic attack. After that I will ask my students to tell me whether they are also afraid of elevators or not.If yes, why?

Pre-Reading/Listening (13-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

on the board there are three pictures representing these three following words( repair, stuck, claustrophobic). I will point to each picture and ask my students to guess what is going on in that picture.( is he a mechanic? what is he doing?...what happened to Poo?...how does he feel ? is he scared?....)By my student's guesses and a little bit of my help we will finely use those three words( he is repairing the car, Poo is stuck, he is claustrophobic) After that i will write those three words on one side of the board, and their meanings on the other side.I will ask them to match each word with it's meaning/ definition. each word will be drilled by the whole class.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

in this stage students will listen to the audio file and try to answer the question in part " a". the answers will be checked by the whole class.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

the students will be asked to read the questions on part"b" before i play the audio for the second time.first they will check their answers in pairs(in five minutes) and then with the whole class. they'll need to specify their reason if their answers are different.

Post-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

the students will be asked to answer the question on part "c". first some volunteers and then i will chose some myself.
