To provide accuracy and fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of celebrities.
Procedure (30-50 minutes)
I will begin the lesson by telling them that I went to the club they advised me to go to in the previous lesson. I will then tell them I liked a song( Bangir Bangir by Gülşen) that was played in the club and will play it in class. I will then tell them that I am in love with this singer and googled her information.
I will put up some questions on the board and ask them if they know their answers. 1. Question: When was Gülşen Bayraktar born? 2. Question: Where was she born? 3. Question: Where did she study? 4. Question: When was her first album released? 5. Question: What is the name of the album that was released two years ago? They will then try to answer them on their own. 1. Answer: She was born on May 29th, 1976 2. Answer: She was born in Istanbul. 3. Answer: She studied at the Turkish Classical Music Department of Istanbul Technical University. 4. Answer: Her first album was released in 1995. 5. Answer: "Beni Durdursan mı?" ("I wonder if you should stop me")is the name of the album that was released two years ago. After they trying to figure out the answers, they will be asked (if they know them) to write them on the board. If not, they will be given the answers.
They will be handed in some time phrases and will be asked to put them in order. They will then be give an answer key to check their answers.
I will hang up three short articles of famous celebrities on the wall. In order to introduce the singers, I will play their famous songs. They will then be paired (Student A+B). Student A has to read the questions and student B has to go find the answers. Once they finish, they will be handed another sheet of questions of another celebrity. This time, Student B has to read the questions and student A has to go find the answers.
The students will be handed out a sheet of paper that has three questions they should ask each other. They should also write one question on their own to ask the other students. After they are done, I will do error correction.
