Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (10-15 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In this section of the lesson, I will ask the students whether or not they know anything about astrology and astronomy. I will then continue to explain what astrology and astronomy are. Once I have explained, I will ask the students if they like the fields in question. I will also ask the the following questions: What do you know about the secrets of the universe and the galaxy? Do you know anything about the planets? Do you know what the milky way is?

Exposure (5-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this section of the lesson, I will tell the students some facts about the earth and also the sun; in doing so, I will pre-teach the blocking words present in the text.

Highlighting (5-10 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

In this section of the lesson, I will ask the students to work in pairs and talk about some of their favorite facts about the earth, the universe or even a country.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

In this section of the lesson, I will ask the students to take a look at the title of the reading and its pictures; once they have looked at the title and the pictures, they are supposed to tell me what they think the text (or the reading) is going to be about.

Controlled Practice (10-15 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

In this section of the lesson, students are supposed to quickly read the text and write the six conditions that make earth suitable for supporting life. They have five minutes to read the text.

Semi-Controlled Practice (10-15 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

In this section of the lesson, students are supposed to read the text again, but this time, attention should be paid to details. Once they have read the text, they are supposed to answer six detailed questions.

Free Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In the final section of the lesson, I will ask two volunteers to come to the front of the class. One of the students will play the role of planet earth, and the other will be a person inhabiting planet earth. The first student (the student playing the roll of planet earth) will name the ways in which people are destroying planet earth, and the second student is supposed to come up with solutions for these problems.
