Description

In this lesson, students will produce a short paragraph describing the activities they did on their favorite trip. The grammar structure they will use is Simple Past Tense, which will be explained in a previous lesson by a different teacher.

Main Aims

  • To provide writing practice of a short story (25-35 words) in the context of trips.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of lexis in the context of outdoor activities.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T starts the lesson by asking the Ss to complete the following expression: Activities we usually do when traveling...Ss would answer: take photos, buy souvenirs, go to the zoo, try new food, etc. Then T shows some pictures related to activities people usually do when travel.

Text Analysis (8-9 minutes) • To provide a model of the writing that the students will produce and to highlight useful language

Two or three Ss tell T where they go on their last trips and let them talk about how they feel about it. Then T presents his own experience during the previous trip. T asks one of the best students to read it for everybody. Ss read off the shared screen and listen to the story. T asks the students if the story is described in the present, past, or future. T asks if all the information is in one paragraph only. T asks what type of information includes the first, second, and last paragraph.

Useful Language (8-9 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T asks the students for the words that are underlined in purple to identify the correct use of Simple Past Tense ¨I year ago, I traveled to Cusco with my family for vacations. It was a very beautiful city. I ate delicious food, took many photos, went hiking, bought souvenirs, and visited new places. At the end of the trip, I felt very energetic ready to continue with my daily routine¨. T shows students that the verbs used in the story are in the simple past form.

Productive Task(s) (15-16 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ss work individually to write their own story about their last trip. T shows the previous example as a hint to write providing enough and organized information. Ss will post answers on Padlet.

Feedback and Error Correction (7-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Ss will go to BOR for 3 minutes to comment on peers' stories and check if their partner's story contains enough and organized information. T does delayed error correction grammar if needed.
