Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

This is so important that students warm up before studying. I do this with questions, taking votes and being active together.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I'm going to use examples, pair work, pictures and... to clarify better. In my opinion, pictures are one of the best ways for getting attention.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I make students pay attention with questions and asking them for participating in discussions. Asking questions is really important, because teaching will be more affective by students' company.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I clarify meanings by writing on the board, showing with different acts and the activities that can be both informative and fun. It matters that the exercises are fun as well.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

We will have some practices that are controlled, for example, the first practice of the book. The students prepare before starting the first exercise.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

It can be affective for students who are only used to controlled practices. I try to give them more courage, because they should get ready for free practices.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I try to give them this responsibility. They have to do these kinds of practices more carefully. The idea behind free practice is to provide a flexible, non-competitive environment for improvement and experimentation.
