Procedure (34-45 minutes)
Show picture of logos of popular websites (in Turkey). Ask sts what they are, elicit “the internet” on to the WB. “We will talk about the internet today.” Ask sts what they can do on the websites; elicit a couple of answers.
Give out HO 1, ask the sts to fold it in half to hide the part with the words. Ask sts to work in pairs and talk about what they can do on those websites. After 1 minute, ask them to unfold the HO 1, and match the words to the pictures. Elicit the answers on to the WB. Concept check for the vocabulary, draw attention to the pronunciation features and drill the pronunciation.
Show sts the picture of Alice. “Alice likes using the internet. This woman is asking her questions about how she uses the internet. What is this? What do we call the paper with questions for the interview? This questionnaire is not complete, please, fill in the blanks.” Ask the sts to fill in the blanks in HO 2 (Interview page), and check in pairs. Give sts the answer sheet for FB. Check if sts know what Youtube, Amazon and ipod are.
Ask sts to listen to the recording and fill in the questionnaire for Alice. Pause for the first answer. “Now we will listen to the interview. Alice answers questions. Please, listen to the recording and put a tick or a cross.” Ask the sts to read the questions and answer them while the recording is being played for the second time. Get a student who finished early to write the answers on the board for FB “Ok, does everyone agree?”
Elicit the questions that can be asked for the questionnaires, drill the questions. Ask the students to interview two other sts and fill in the questionnaire for them. “Now, you will ask these questions to two other people. Write their name here, and their answers here. What’s the first question? If you ask me, then you write my name here, and put a tick here. What questions will you ask? How many people will you ask? What do you put here? (tick or cross).” FB: ask the sts to tell something interesting about someone in the class.
T writes the sentences with errors that were made during the previous activity on the board, and elicits the errors.
